Recently, the Tongyu Solar Thermal Project, undertaken by China Power Engineering Consulting Group Jilin Electric Power Survey & Design Institute Co., Ltd. as the general contractor, reached a significant milestone: the first concrete pouring for the heat absorber tower’s cylindrical wall was successfully completed. This marks the official entry of this national-level new energy demonstration project into the main structure construction phase, laying a solid foundation for the project’s timely commissioning.

The heat absorber tower is a core component of the solar thermal power generation system and the key single-unit project with the highest technical difficulty and strictest safety standards. Its quality and progress directly impact the overall project construction.
As previously reported, the Tongyu 100MW solar thermal project is part of the Jixi Base-Lugu DC 1.4GW Power Transmission Project (100MW solar thermal subproject), located in Tongyu County, Baicheng City, Jilin Province, above 45° north latitude, in the cold region of northeastern China. The project plans to build a 100MW tower-type solar thermal unit adopting the single-tower single-heliostat field tower-type molten salt technology route, equipped with an 8-hour thermal energy storage system, steam generation system, high-temperature ultra-high-pressure reheat pure condensing steam turbine generator system, and other auxiliary facilities. It also includes a 40MW electric heater to heat molten salt using abandoned power from wind or photovoltaic systems. China Power Engineering Consulting Jilin Institute (in a consortium with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co., Ltd.) won the EPC general contracting bid.
Upon completion, the project will effectively enhance the power quality of the combined power sources in Baicheng, Jilin, improve the grid-connected performance of large-scale new energy, increase the utilization rate of local clean energy, achieve multi-energy complementarity among solar thermal energy storage, photovoltaic, and wind power, and play a significant role in building a new-type power system with new energy as the main body.
