Recently, the civil engineering foundation of the thermal storage spherical tank of Unit 2 of the second phase project of the Huaneng Jintan Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage Power Generation Project, which is constructed by Shandong Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Co., Ltd., has been successfully handed over for safety, helping to accelerate and improve the efficiency of equipment installation and project construction.

It is reported that Unit 2 of this project has a total of 8 high/low-temperature water spherical tanks with a volume of 3,500 cubic meters each. The designed pressure is 1.8 megapascals, and each tank can store 3,500 tons of demineralized water. Its civil engineering foundation is a large-volume concrete structure in the shape of a circular ring, with a maximum diameter of 23 meters. It needs to be poured at one time, and the anchor bolts need to be accurately positioned to ensure the installation quality of the subsequent spherical tanks. The requirements for construction process control are strict.
In order to ensure the construction quality and the target of the construction schedule, the Huaneng Jintan project team of Shandong Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Co., Ltd. planned in advance, organized meticulously, optimized the construction procedures and processes. Through BIM technology modeling and visual disclosure, special designed and customized circular formwork was used to improve the installation efficiency of the formwork and the quality of the first-time molding. The training of the professional work standards of personnel and the disclosure of safety technology and quality were comprehensively strengthened, and the verification of people, machines, materials, methods, and the environment was well done. From the excavation of the foundation pit, the binding of steel bars, the installation of formwork, the pouring and curing of concrete, the installation of anchor bolts, the measurement control, and the protection of the finished products, each construction process was strictly implemented in accordance with the drawings and the specifications of the plan. The sign-holding acceptance, on-site supervision, and witness of each process were well done to ensure the safe, high-quality, and efficient progress of the project, which was recognized by the owner and the supervisor.
The second phase project of the Huaneng Jintan Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage Power Generation Project is planned to construct two sets of 350-megawatt non-supplementary combustion compressed air energy storage units. The total volume of the gas storage salt caverns reaches 1.2 million cubic meters, with an energy storage time of 8 hours and a power generation time of 4 hours. One charge can store 2.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, and it is expected to charge and discharge 330 times a year, which is equivalent to saving 270,000 tons of standard coal and reducing the carbon dioxide emissions by 520,000 tons. This project has broken through the technical barriers of the “neck-sticking” technology. It will develop and install the world’s most advanced air turbines and compressor units, and achieve 100% localization of the core equipment. It is currently the compressed air energy storage power station with the largest single-unit power, the largest total capacity, and the highest comprehensive efficiency in the world.
