On April 23, the Zhongnengjian Gonghe 1,000 MW Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Project, a key energy initiative in Qinghai Province, commenced construction. The project is part of China’s second batch of National Large-Scale Wind and Photovoltaic Power Base Projects. It is invested in by China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) China Electric Engineering Investment, with Jiangsu Institute as a shareholder, Liaoning Institute as the EPC general contractor, Jiangsu Electric Power Construction No.1 Company as the construction contractor, and Northwest Electric Power Engineering Supervision Co., Ltd. overseeing supervision.

Located in the Green Industry Development Park Photovoltaic Zone of Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, the project site lies approximately 28 kilometers from Gonghe County at an elevation of 2,910 meters, covering an area of 28,125 mu (about 18.75 square kilometers).
With a total investment of approximately 5.019 billion yuan, the project has a total installed capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW), including 900 MW AC photovoltaic power and 100 MW solar thermal power, complemented by a 100 MW/200 MWh electrochemical energy storage system.
Upon completion, the project is expected to generate approximately 2.09 billion kWh of electricity annually, sufficient to meet the annual electricity demands of 500,000 households. It will significantly alleviate local energy supply pressures and support Qinghai Province in building itself into a national hub for the clean energy industry, advancing China’s goals for carbon neutrality and sustainable development.
