Hebei Province’s “Name-List” Project “Key Technologies for Efficient Power Generation in Liquid Air Energy Storage Systems” Successfully Passed Acceptance

On July 20, the Department of Science and Technology of Hebei Province and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Hebei Province (SASAC of Hebei) organized relevant experts to hold an acceptance meeting for the Hebei Province “name-list” project “Key Technologies for Efficient Power Generation in Liquid Air Energy Storage Systems” undertaken by Jiantou Guorong. Relevant leaders from the Department of Science and Technology of Hebei Province, SASAC of Hebei, the Science, Technology and Information Department of Hebei Jiantou Group, Jiantou Energy, the project undertaking unit, and representatives of the project team members attended the meeting.

Members of the expert group visited the liquid air energy storage power station, listened to and reviewed the project’s self-evaluation report, scientific and technological report, and other acceptance and supporting materials. After questioning and discussion, they unanimously agreed that the project has completed all assessment indicators stipulated in the task book. The project achievements have important reference and guiding significance for the development of China’s liquid air energy storage industry, and thus agreed to pass the acceptance. This technological achievement has made a major breakthrough in China’s liquid air energy storage field, overcoming “bottleneck” issues such as system integration, high dynamic response control, and design and manufacturing of cold storage equipment. It has formed a systematic original theory of liquid air energy storage based on cryogenic cold storage technology and a technical system for the design and manufacturing of complete sets of equipment, and built China’s first grid-connected full-system liquid air energy storage power station. The localization rate of the main equipment of this power station reaches 100%, filling the domestic technical gap. It has achieved, for the first time, efficient, flexible and stable operation with a variable load rate exceeding 20% Pe/min, providing an innovative solution to the problem of large-scale grid connection and absorption of new energy, and is of great significance for promoting the high-quality development of Hebei’s long-duration energy storage industry.

A relevant person in charge of the Department of Science and Technology of Hebei Province stated that liquid air energy storage technology is a key strategically emerging energy technology in the province’s layout, which is of great significance for promoting energy structure transformation and achieving the “dual-carbon” goals (carbon peak and carbon neutrality). The next step will be to continue focusing on the translation of this scientific and technological achievement, provide policy support for subsequent promotion and application, and help boost the high-quality development of Hebei’s energy storage industry.

Ma Tao, General Manager of the Science, Technology and Information Department of Hebei Jiantou Group, emphasized that the Group attaches great importance to the leading role of scientific and technological innovation, and liquid air energy storage technology is one of the key focuses in the Group’s layout of the new track of energy storage and hydrogen energy. The next step will be to continue increasing R&D investment, promote technological iteration and the implementation of coupled demonstration projects, expand the “‘liquid air storage +’ business model”, drive the development of industrial chain clusters, and serve the construction of Hebei as a strong energy province.
