On March 31, a major construction milestone was reached at the world’s highest-elevation concentrated solar power (CSP) project and the first tower CSP project in Tibet — the Tibet Kaitou Tushuo 100MW molten salt tower CSP plant. The generator stator was successfully hoisted into position through the coordinated efforts of all participating teams, marking a critical breakthrough in the installation of core equipment and laying a solid foundation for subsequent unit installation, commissioning, and grid connection.
The generator stator is a key load-bearing component of the CSP power block, and the precision of its installation directly impacts the safety and stability of the unit’s future operation. The stator installed in this operation measures 6.55 meters in length, 3.6 meters in width, and 3.64 meters in height, with a total weight of approximately 135 tonnes.
The successful hoisting of the generator stator signals the official commencement of steam turbine-generator installation works at the Anduo CSP project in Tibet. In the next phase, the project team will accelerate alignment, fixation, and subsequent auxiliary installations, while maintaining strict quality and safety control to ensure timely project delivery and support the development of the clean energy base in northern Tibet.
As a key energy project under Tibet’s 14th Five-Year Plan, the Tushuo 100MW CSP project is part of the larger integrated development combining 100MW CSP with 800MW of other energy capacity. Located in the Tanggula mountainous region at an altitude of 4,645 to 4,657 meters, the project faces numerous world-class engineering challenges and has set a new global record for CSP project elevation.
The project is invested and developed by Tibet Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd. The EPC contract is jointly undertaken by Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited of PowerChina and Shandong Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Co., Ltd. Key equipment, including the solar field, steam generator, and steam turbine-generator set, is supplied by Dongfang Electric Corporation Dongfang Boiler Co., Ltd.
