{"id":1667,"date":"2026-04-03T01:57:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T01:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/?p=1667"},"modified":"2026-04-03T01:57:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T01:57:12","slug":"germany-and-poland-build-first-renewable-cross-border-district-heating-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/index.php\/2026\/04\/03\/germany-and-poland-build-first-renewable-cross-border-district-heating-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany and Poland build first renewable cross-border district heating system"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-4-1024x682.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-4-1024x682.png 1024w, https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-4-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-4-768x511.png 768w, https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-4-1536x1023.png 1536w, https:\/\/en.esplaza.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-4.png 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Construction has begun on United Heat, a renewable cross-border district heating project connecting the cities of G\u00f6rlitz in Germany and Zgorzelec in Poland.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>A mix of renewable systems, predominantly heat pumps, biomass and solar thermal, will replace gas-fired combined heat and power plants in G\u00f6rlitz and coal and natural gas in Zgorzelec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system is complemented by power-to-heat, pit thermal energy storage and waste heat from sewage gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These will reduce carbon emissions by around 50,000 metric tons per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sewage treatment plant will serve as a central connection point between the German and Polish networks, able to transport up to 15 megawatts of heat in either direction depending on supply and demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zgorzelec and G\u00f6rlitz will be connected via a 3.8km pipeline, with 12km of pipelines to link previously separate German networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United Heat will be overseen by Stadtwerke G\u00f6rlitz, part of the Veolia Group and Polish district heating provider SEC Zgorzelec, an E.ON Group subsidiary, with Germany\u2019s Drees &amp; Sommer as project management consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karl Schultz, Drees &amp; Sommer energy consulting expert, said: \u201cThe heat transition may represent the greatest challenge district heating providers have ever faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnited Heat has risen to meet it, combining innovative energy technologies into an intelligently managed energy mix, underpinned by close technical and organisational collaboration across national borders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carolin Worech, Drees &amp;
