On April 27, the National Energy Administration (NEA) held a press conference to present China\u2019s energy development performance in the first quarter of 2026, including renewable energy grid integration, hydrogen production from renewables, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure development, as well as to respond to media questions on key public concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the briefing, Pan Huimin, Deputy Director General of the New Energy Department, provided an overview of renewable energy grid connection and operation in the first quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the end of the period, China\u2019s total installed renewable energy capacity reached approximately 2.395 billion kW, accounting for more than 60% of total power generation capacity. Wind and solar combined capacity reached approximately 1.898 billion kW, accounting for 47.9% of the national total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first quarter of 2026, newly installed renewable energy capacity reached 58.93 million kW, representing 70% of all new power capacity additions nationwide. This included 1.42 million kW of hydropower, 15.77 million kW of wind power, 41.19 million kW of solar power, 0.35 million kW of biomass power, and 0.20 million kW of solar thermal power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the end of March, cumulative installed capacities were as follows: hydropower 450 million kW, wind power 655 million kW, solar power 1.241 billion kW, biomass power 48 million kW, and solar thermal power 2.02 million kW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Solar Thermal Power Development and Operation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In the first quarter, China added 200,000 kW of new solar thermal capacity.
