Key Chinese Molten Salt Storage Tank Manufacturers[With Project Track Records]

With the rapid growth of emerging energy storage markets such as concentrated solar power (CSP) and thermal power plant flexibility retrofits, the commercial deployment of molten salt energy storage technologies has accelerated significantly in recent years.

In molten salt energy storage systems, storage tanks—used to contain high-temperature molten salt media—are of critical importance. Their structural design, material performance, construction quality, and long-term operational stability directly determine whether a project can operate safely and reliably. Historically, both domestic and international projects have suffered significant economic losses due to molten salt tank leakage and related incidents.

Note: The following list, compiled by CSPPLAZA, highlights key manufacturers with proven commercial project experience in molten salt storage tanks, for reference by project developers and procurement stakeholders.

Harbin Boiler Company Limited (Harbin Electric Corporation)

Founded in 1954 and affiliated with Harbin Electric Corporation, the company is a core enterprise in China’s power equipment manufacturing sector. It has proactively expanded into CSP and molten salt energy storage, establishing dedicated process testing platforms and specialized R&D teams.

Leveraging core capabilities in stress analysis and multi-physics simulation (thermal–fluid–structural coupling), the company has developed a full range of molten salt storage tank solutions—from small and medium-sized units to large-scale tanks exceeding 10,000 m³. It offers end-to-end delivery capabilities, including independent design, prefabrication, on-site installation, and performance testing.

Its products are applicable to CSP, grid-side molten salt energy storage, and thermal power flexibility retrofit projects, and have been supplied to multiple new energy projects.

Bluestar (Beijing) Chemical Machinery Co., Ltd.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Sinochem Holdings Corporation, the company builds on strong expertise in chemical equipment manufacturing. It focuses on CSP energy storage and molten salt system integration.

Its core products include molten salt storage tanks, molten salt pumps, and heat exchangers. The company provides integrated EPC services covering process design, equipment manufacturing, on-site installation, commissioning, and system operation & maintenance.

It delivers customized solutions for CSP and renewable energy–integrated molten salt storage projects, with multiple completed projects involving storage tank and system supply.

Shanghai Boiler Works Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group)

Established in 1989 (with origins dating back to 1953), the company is part of Shanghai Electric Group. With over 60 years of experience in power equipment manufacturing, it has strategically expanded into CSP and molten salt energy storage.

The company has mastered core technologies across the full lifecycle of large-scale molten salt storage tanks, including structural design, material selection, welding processes, and on-site construction. It is capable of designing and manufacturing large tanks exceeding 10,000 m³ and providing system integration solutions.

It has supplied molten salt storage tanks and core thermal storage systems for multiple tower CSP plants and demonstration projects in China.

Dongfang Boiler Group Co., Ltd. (Dongfang Electric Corporation)

Founded in 1966, the company is a key subsidiary of Dongfang Electric Corporation. Since 2009, it has strategically positioned CSP as a core business and is among the earliest Chinese companies to enter the molten salt energy storage sector.

It has independently developed full lifecycle design and manufacturing technologies for large molten salt storage tanks, covering material compatibility, structural simulation, welding processes, anti-leakage design, corrosion protection, and thermal insulation.

The company is capable of delivering ultra-large molten salt storage tanks with single-unit capacities up to 50,000 m³, and has supplied storage tanks and complete thermal storage systems for China’s first batch of CSP demonstration projects and large renewable energy base projects.

Shanghai Lanbin Petrochemical Equipment Co., Ltd.

Established in 2002, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lanke High-Tech (Gansu Lanke Petrochemical Equipment Co., Ltd.). Leveraging over 60 years of experience in pressure vessels and high-efficiency heat transfer equipment, it specializes in R&D, design, manufacturing, and technical services for molten salt storage tanks and heat exchangers.

It offers customized design and large-scale manufacturing of both atmospheric and pressurized molten salt storage tanks, suitable for CSP and industrial molten salt energy storage applications. The company has delivered multiple projects with proven commercial track records.

How to Connect and Collaborate

To engage directly with the above manufacturers, you are welcome to attend the 13th China International CSP Conference 2026, to be held on May 28–29 in Chengdu, Sichuan.

More than 70 leading global suppliers across the entire CSP value chain—including several of the above molten salt storage tank manufacturers—will showcase their technologies and products. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore high-temperature molten salt tanks, low-temperature systems, dual-tank configurations, and integrated solutions, as well as engage in one-on-one discussions with technical experts.
