In April 2026, a number of key concentrated solar power (CSP) and molten salt thermal energy storage projects achieved important milestones.
CSP sector:
The contractor for the survey and preliminary design of the 200 MW trough CSP project in the Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia, has been confirmed. Meanwhile, several key equipment packages for the 100 MW CSP project in Tushuo, Amdo County (Tibet Development Investment), and the 100 MW CSP project in Xinjiang by CEEC have been awarded, indicating steady progress in project construction.
Molten salt thermal energy storage sector:
The feasibility study contractor has been selected for China’s first integrated demonstration project combining wind, solar, thermal storage, and retired coal-fired power assets. In addition, key commissioning services have been awarded for the molten salt thermal storage retrofit project of Shandong Luxi Power Plant. Suppliers for the steam turbine and generator have also been confirmed for the Phase V 1×600 MW coal-fired power expansion project of Inner Mongolia Energy Group.
According to incomplete statistics from CSPPLAZA, a total of 12 CSP and molten salt thermal energy storage-related projects, involving 15 major contract packages, completed tendering in April 2026.
